Dhaka February 03 2025:

Communal conflict at the press conference of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council claimed in a press conference last Thursday that 23 people have been killed in communal violence in the country in the last four and a half months after the mass uprising.

The interim government took this claim of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council very seriously and collected a list of the 23 murders mentioned. The list was sent to the police from the office of the Chief Advisor and asked to know the real cause of each incident and the legal action taken.

The police headquarters provided details about each incident. The police have been informed about the primary causes of 22 of the 23 incidents mentioned and appropriate legal action has been taken. However, no detailed information was available about one incident.

Out of the 22 incidents whose details have already been known, not a single incident has any connection with communal violence. Of the murders, seven were related to theft and robbery, four were related to personal and family disputes, three were related to general crimes such as rape, death due to excessive drinking and death due to verbal abuse, two were related to accidents, two were related to business disputes, one was related to local clashes, one was related to land disputes, one was a suicide and the exact cause of one death is not yet known, but it is confirmed that there is no communal conflict.

This list also includes a person who was injured in an incident in January last year and died in the hospital last December while undergoing treatment.

Legal action has already been taken in each of these incidents, taking due importance. In two of these 23 incidents, where suicide and death by drowning were involved, the police have already submitted their final reports after completing the investigation. In the other 21 cases under investigation, 47 people have already been arrested and 17 of those arrested have confessed their responsibility and given confessional statements in court.

The interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus does not support any kind of violence. At the same time, the interim government finds it worrying to propagate such incidents as communal violence.

Considering that such misleading propaganda can lead to the destruction of the overall communal harmony of the country, the interim government calls on all parties to be more responsible.
