The holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune, will be observed throughout the country today with due religious fervour and devotion.

In the eighth month of the Islamic lunar year, on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban, one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar, Shab-e-Barat is celebrated. Known as the ‘Night of Forgiveness,’ it is a period of intense spiritual introspection during which followers spend the night in prayer, asking the almighty for forgiveness, mercy, and blessings.

According to the Hijri calendar, Shab-e-Barat will be observed in 2025 from the evening of Thursday, February 13, till the evening of Friday, February 14.

On this occasion, Islamic Foundation (IF) has chalked out programmes at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque here, an IF press release said.

The IF will hold waz (religious sermons), doa-mahfils, special prayers, recitation from the Holy Quran and Hamd-Naat at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque tomorrow evening. 

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain will deliver an Islamic sermon at the Baitul Mukarram Mosque here highlighting the significance of Shab-e-Barat around 6.35 pm tomorrow.

Besides, religious sermons centering the Shab-e-Barat will be delivered at various mosques after Maghrib prayers alongside holding special munajat after Esha prayers tomorrow in the country.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today issued a message greeting all Muslims of the country and elsewhere across the world on the occasion of the holy Shab-e-Barat.

On this day, a huge number of devotees visit the nearest graveyards and offer special doa and munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of their near and dear ones.

In Central Asian nations like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, as well as in South Asian nations like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Turkey, Shab-e-Barat is celebrated with great fervor and devotion.


People congregate in mosques on this holy night to pray and ask Allah for forgiveness. Many people also go to their loved ones’ graves to offer prayers on their behalf. One of thge most important ritual of this holy day is doing charitable deeds, such as giving food, clothes and money to the unprivileged people.


People get involved in many religious and spiritual activities such as visiting the Mosques, offering prayers, doing meditation whole night, reciting the holy book Quran and chanting the Dua so they can seek forgiveness from the almighty and wish for the well being of their family members or loved ones.

People also distribute money, food and sweet among the poor and destitute. Shab-e-Barat, observed on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban in the Islamic calendar, is a night of prayer and repentance, where individuals seek forgiveness and blessings. Celebrated in countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, devotees engage in charitable activities, visit mosques, pray, and remember deceased loved ones.


History of Shab-e-Barat in 2025 Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is believed to have arrived in Makkah on this auspicious night. According to another widely held narrative, his wife, Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa, once noticed his disappearance and went looking for him. Later, she discovered him in the cemetery of Medina, praying for the dead to be forgiven.
