Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has given the following Message on the occasion of the Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day :
“On the occasion of great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, I pay tribute to people of all languages in the world, including Bangla. Since 2000, Bangladesh and UNESCO have been jointly observing this day in a befitting manner. ‘Make Languages Count for Sustainable Development’ as this year’s UNESCO topic is justified.
The Bengali nation, which had endured centuries of enslavement and domination, achieved its first victory in its struggle for independence on February 21, 1952. The language movement holds special significance in the history of the Bengali nation’s liberation movement. The groundwork for the establishment of a democratic, language-based, non-communal state structure was established by this movement. On this day, Abul Barkat, Abdul Jabbar, Abdus Salam, Rafiquddin Ahmad, Shafiur Rahman and many others sacrificed their lives to protect the dignity of their mother language, Bangla.
In 1956, Bangla was granted the status of a state language and February 21 was declared Martyrs’ Day and a public holiday. On November 17, 1999, UNESCO recognised February 21 as ‘International Mother Language Day.’
The Interim Government established through the July Uprising is working consistently to defend the dignity of the nation and its languages, which are essential to growth and prosperity. It is also working to ensure that the Bangla language is used in information technology. Textbooks in the mother languages of various ethnic groups, including Braille books, are being distributed free of charge.
Greetings and congratulations to everyone on great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2025. I wish success to all the programmes undertaken on this occasion.”
মহান শহিদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবসে প্রধান উপদেষ্টার বাণী

প্রধান উপদেষ্টা প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস মহান শহিদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে বাণী প্রদান করেছেন:
“মহান শহিদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে আমি বাংলাসহ বিশ্বের সকল ভাষাভাষী মানুষের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করছি। ইউনেস্কো ২০০০ সাল থেকেই বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে এ দিবসটি যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় উদ্যাপন করে আসছে। দিবসটির এবারের প্রতিপাদ্য- ‘Make languages count for sustainable development’ যুক্তিযুক্ত হয়েছে।
শত বছরের শোষণে ও শাসনে জর্জরিত বাঙালি জাতির মুক্তি সংগ্রামের প্রথম জয়যাত্রা ১৯৫২ সালে ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিতে। বাঙালি জাতির মুক্তি সংগ্রামের ইতিহাসে ভাষা আন্দোলনের গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম। এই আন্দোলনের মধ্য দিয়েই একটি অসাম্প্রদায়িক, গণতান্ত্রিক, ভাষাভিত্তিক রাষ্ট্রব্যবস্থা গঠনের ভিত রচিত হয়েছিল। এ দিনে আমাদের মাতৃভাষা বাংলা’র মর্যাদা রক্ষা করতে প্রাণোৎসর্গ করেছিলেন আবুল বরকত, আবদুল জব্বার, আবদুস সালাম, রফিক উদ্দিন আহমদ, শফিউর রহমানসহ আরো অনেকে।
১৯৫৬ সালে বাংলা রাষ্ট্রভাষার মর্যাদা পায় এবং ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে শহিদ দিবস হিসেবে ঘোষণা করে এই দিনে সরকারি ছুটি ঘোষণা করা হয়। ১৯৯৯ সালের ১৭ নভেম্বর ইউনেস্কো ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে ‘আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস’ হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করে।
জুলাই গণ-অভ্যুত্থানের মধ্য দিয়ে গঠিত অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার দেশ ও দেশের ভাষাসমূহের মর্যাদা রক্ষায় নিরন্তর কাজ করে যাচ্ছে, যা দেশের উন্নতি ও সমৃদ্ধির জন্য অপরিহার্য। তথ্যপ্রযুক্তিতে বাংলা ভাষার ব্যবহার নিশ্চিত করতেও সরকার কাজ করছে। এছাড়াও, ব্রেইল বইসহ বিভিন্ন জাতি গোষ্ঠীর মাতৃভাষায় পাঠ্যপুস্তক বিনামূল্যে বিতরণ করা হচ্ছে।
সবাইকে মহান শহিদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস ২০২৫ এর শুভেচ্ছা ও অভিনন্দন জানাই। এ উপলক্ষ্যে গৃহীত সকল কর্মসূচির সাফল্য কামনা করছি।”
