DHAKA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) –
BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said the party’s 31-point reform plan will redefine the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, showing the light of hope to common masses who want change.
This plan has outlined based on the 19-point development agenda of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the Vision 2030 of Begum Khaleda Zia, the 27-point proposal of BNP.
All the previous agenda of the party were culminated into 31-point reform plan in consultation with other political parties which are involved simultaneously with the democratic movements.
Tarique Rahman made these remarks while addressing virtually from London in a training workshop on 31-point agenda organized by Dhaka Bar Nationalist Lawyers Forum here today.
“When no one dared, BNP floated 31-point proposal, he said adding that “Now we are hearing different people talking about different things in the name of reforms.”
Tarique Rahman said, we’re now hearing about the balance of power, many are talking about qualitative changes in politics. Of course, anyone can express their opinion. But when the autocratic ruler had forcibly seized state power for a long time, various political parties including BNP, ignoring the tyranny, built up a protest resistance. They presented a 31-point proposal for state reform.”
Reiterating his call for national election immediately, Tarique Rahman said, “If people of the country give BNP the opportunity to run the state, everyone from their position will try their best to implement the electoral pledges.”
Tarique Rahman said BNP had proposed that a person cannot be elected as the prime minister more than two times. Now, the reform commission formed by the interim government is also saying the same.
He said BNP proposed for upper house of the parliament two and a half years ago, and now the reform commission said the same.
Regarding the interim government’s reform proposal and BNP’s 31 points, he said that there may not be 100 percent similarity, but there is 80 percent similarity. BNP had said the main issues long ago, he said.
President of the forum advocate Md. Khorshed Alam presided over the programme, while senior lawyer advocate Zainul Abedin, president of the forum and BNP’s legal affairs secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal also spoke on the occasion.
Md. Nihar Hossain Faruk, Member Secretary of the forum conducted the programme while former Dean of the Law Faculty of Dhaka University Professor Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan and BNP Media Cell Convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel were present, among others.
