Dhaka, March 20, 2025–
These decisions were taken in the meeting of the Advisory Council today, Thursday.
- Amendments to the Women and Children Abuse Act have been passed.
- Amendments to the Public Procurement Ordinance have been brought to increase transparency and competition in the government procurement process and to break syndicates. The provision of rejecting tender proposals if the estimated value is less than 10 percent has been abolished. The previous matrix for evaluating work, due to which the same organization used to get work repeatedly, will be replaced with a new capacity matrix. This will make it possible to break the syndicate. Currently, 65 percent of work tenders are being done online. The government has decided to increase this to 100 percent.
- Those allotted abandoned houses could not register in their own names earlier. Amendments to the law have been brought to remove that difficulty.
- For the convenience of the public, the Eid holiday has been extended by one day on April 3. At the same time, an executive order has been issued to declare a general holiday in the three hill districts on the occasion of Chaitra Sankranti. This holiday will also cover other ethnic groups, including Santal, Garo, Khasia, Jainta, and Bengalis from the plains.
