BRAC Bank, in collaboration with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, organised a three-day intensive training programme on the circular economy.
The programme, held at BRAC Bank’s Head Office, was conducted by internationally renowned trainers from Germany and Hong Kong, who bring extensive expertise in Circular Economy Value Chain projects.
The European Union and Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs funded the initiative through a European Commission grant to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), reinforcing a joint effort to promote sustainable economic practices in Bangladesh.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Sabbir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of BRAC Bank, and Zaki Uz Zaman, Country Representative of UNIDO in Bangladesh, who emphasised the importance of circular economy principles in driving long-term environmental and economic sustainability.
Officials from Bangladesh Bank and key representatives from BRAC Bank’s relevant departments attended the sessions.
Discussions revolved around the potential of circular economy value chain projects, including policy-level considerations of circular economy implementation, offering valuable insights into regulatory frameworks and strategic execution.
A circular economy is a transformative approach that minimises environmental harm by designing products and processes prioritising reusability, recyclability, and waste reduction. A transition to a circular economy can generate multiple benefits, including reduced emissions, decreased resource extraction, lower pollution and waste levels, new markets, job opportunities, and increased economic growth.
This training programme is part of BRAC Bank’s commitment to fostering sustainable business practices and promoting innovative financial solutions supporting environmental stewardship and economic resilience.

ইউরোপিয়ান ইনভেস্টমেন্ট ব্যাংক (ইআইবি) এবং ফ্রাঙ্কফুর্ট স্কুল অব ফাইন্যান্স অ্যান্ড ম্যানেজমেন্টের সহযোগিতায় সার্কুলার ইকোনমি নিয়ে তিন দিনব্যপী বিশেষ প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করেছে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক।
ঢাকায় ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের প্রধান কার্যালয়ে আয়োজিত এই অনুষ্ঠানে প্রশিক্ষক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন সার্কুলার ইকোনমি ভ্যালু চেইন প্রোজেক্ট বিষয়ে বিশেষ অভিজ্ঞতা ও দক্ষতাসম্পন্ন জার্মানি এবং হংকং-এর আন্তর্জাতিক খ্যাতিসম্পন্ন প্রশিক্ষকরা।
এই উদ্যোগটি ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন এবং ফিনল্যান্ডের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় কর্তৃক জাতিসংঘের শিল্প উন্নয়ন সংস্থাকে (ইউএনআইডিও) দেওয়া ইউরোপীয় কমিশনের অনুদানের মাধ্যমে অর্থায়ন করা হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশে টেকসই অর্থনৈতিক অনুশীলন প্রসারের লক্ষ্যে এই যৌথ সহায়তা কাজ করে থাকে।
এই কর্মসূচির উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের ডেপুটি ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর অ্যান্ড চিফ অপারেটিং অফিসার সাব্বির হোসেন এবং বাংলাদেশে ইউএনআইডিও-এর কান্ট্রি রিপ্রেজেন্টেটিভ জাকি উজ জামান। তাঁরা দীর্ঘমেয়াদী পরিবেশগত এবং অর্থনৈতিক টেকসইতাকে এগিয়ে নিতে সার্কুলার ইকোনমি নীতিমালার গুরুত্বের ওপর জোর দেন।
প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচিতে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের কর্মকর্তাদের পাশাপাশি ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারাও উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
প্রশিক্ষকরা বাংলাদেশে সার্কুলার ইকোনমি ভ্যালু চেইন প্রোজেক্টের সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন, যেগুলোর মধ্যে ছিল সার্কুলার ইকোনমি বাস্তবায়নের নীতি-সংক্রান্ত বিবেচ্য বিষয়, রেগুলেটরি ফ্রেমওয়ার্ক এবং কৌশলগত লক্ষ্য বাস্তবায়নের রোডম্যাপ।
সার্কুলার ইকোনমি বা বৃত্তাকার অর্থনীতি হলো এমন একটি অর্থনৈতিক প্রক্রিয়া, যা একটি চক্রাকার সম্পদ ব্যবস্থাপনা ও বণ্টন কাঠামো গড়ে তোলার মাধ্যমে সম্পদের সর্বোচ্চ ব্যবহার, পুনর্বণ্টন, পুনঃউৎপাদন ও পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্যতা নিশ্চিত করে। এর ফলে বর্জ্য উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ হ্রাস পায় এবং পরিবেশ দূষণের হারও কমে আসে। এটি পণ্য ও সেবার নতুন বাজার সৃষ্টি, কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি এবং অর্থনৈতিক প্রবৃদ্ধিতেও গুরুত্বপুর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখে।
এই প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচিটি টেকসই ব্যবসায়িক অনুশীলন এবং উদ্ভাবনী আর্থিক সেবার প্রসারের ব্যাপারে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের ব্যক্ত করা প্রতিশ্রুতির প্রতিফলন, যা পরিবেশ রক্ষায় এবং অর্থনৈতিক টেকসইতা বৃদ্ধিতে অবদান রাখে।
