Former US vice president backs Bangladssh reform programmes
DAVOS, January 23 2025:
Former American Vice President Al Gore vowed to support Bangladesh’s reform programmes on Thursday as he met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Davos.
Al Gore, who has emerged as one of the world’s top climate change activists, met Professor Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in the Swiss mountain city.

They discussed the July uprising, climate change, and how to mitigate the impact of global warming, the reform initiatives undertaken by the Interim Government, and election and geopolitical issues.
The former US vice president expressed his support for the country’s reform programmes and fixing Bangladesh’s institutions and its democratic transition through a free and fair vote.
He also praised the global Three Zero movement launched by Professor Yunus to combat carbon emissions, wealth concentration, poverty, and unemployment.
Professor Yunus handed him a copy of The Art of Triumph, the celebrated art book on graffiti and wall paintings drawn during the July uprising.
Al Gore lauded the “amazing” book and the revolutionary spirit of the Bangladeshi young people. “I looked at every page of the book,” Al Gore said.World Bank reiterates support for Bangladesh Interim Government.

DAVOS, January 23 2025:
World Bank managing director Anna Bjerde on Thursday reiterated the global lender’s support to the Interim Government for the rebuilding of Bangladesh.
Bjerde made the comments when she called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in the Swiss city of Davos.
“I want to express our support. Count on us for whatever support you want,” she told Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The World Bank managing director for operations said the bank would like to extend its support to Bangladesh in the second half of the year.
During the talks, they spoke briefly on the July uprising, reform initiatives of the Interim Government and the state of the country’s economy.
Lamiya Morshed, the SDG coordinator of the Bangladesh government, and Tareq Ariful Islam, the country’s permanent envoy to Geneva, also attended the meeting.
